The type of stamp you should get depends on your specific needs. In many cases our customers use several types of stamps to fulfill different stamping needs. There are 3 specific types of stamp available:
traditional stamps that require a separate ink pad.

Pre-inked stamps offer the highest quality and best cost per impression of all the stamps. We offer two brands of pre-inked stamps, iStamp and Xstamper. These stamps come with the ink embedded into the die and require minimal pressure to make an impression. Xstamper brand stamps will last up to 50,000 impressions and iStamp brand stamps will last up to 30,000 impressions.
Self-Inking stamps are the most common stamp we manufacture. The stamp has a built-in ink pad that inks up the rubber dye and stamps the impression when you press down. The three brands we offer in self-inking are 2000 Plus, ClassiX, and Ideal/Trodat. Each of these use a water-based ink that will last several thousand impressions.
Traditional stamps use the same rubber dye that is used in the self-inking stamps, except it is mounted on either a piece of wood with a handle or an acrylic base. These are used with a separate ink pad, giving this stamp versatility to change colors and use fast-drying inks.
Pre-inked stamps provide the most amount of impressions before needing to be re-inked because they use an oil-based ink. iStamps will last up to 30,000 impressions while Xstampers can last until 50,000 impressions before needing to be re-inked.
Self-inking stamps use a water based ink that will last for several thousand impressions before your stamp needs to be re-inked.
Traditional wood handle stamps use a separate ink pad, so it will depend on the type of pad and ink you are using. Most ink pads will last for several thousand impressions but you should read the label for a better idea of how long it will last.
Oil-based inks are resistant to water, moisture, mild soaps, and detergents. Pre-inked stamps use oil-based ink. It is popular with Where's George? and other activities where the impression area may come into contact with water at a later time.
Water-based ink is not permanent and can be removed with a mild detergent and water. Most standard ink pads and self-inking stamps use water-based ink. These work best on regular paper and skin.
The surfaces that can be stamped on depend on the type of stamp you are using.
Most inks work well with standard paper however if you need to stamp on a different type of surface such as glass or plastic, a multisurface, quick-drying ink will be required.
Please call or email us if you have any questions on what stamp will work best with the surface you will be stamping on.
